**Parent-Teacher Conference Days Early Release:
November 21 - 27, 12:30pm Dismissal**

Veterans Day

A few years ago, my family discovered dozens of letters that my grandpa wrote to my grandma when he was a soldier serving in Okinawa during World War II. My grandma was home in Hawaii with five children for many months while my grandpa was serving in the war. It has been amazing to read his letters and hear his voice speaking of his faithful commitment to our country, his fears, frustrations and triumphs, and also his longing to be home with his family. What a touching reminder these letters are for me and my family about the incredible sacrifice of our veterans and their families. My grandfather, father, brother, and husband are all veterans, and I am so proud of their service.
This week, I will be traveling to Washington D.C. with a few other Northshore principals for a leadership conference. I am really sad to miss our school Veterans assembly on Friday, as it is very important to me to honor veterans in our community. This year on Veterans Day, I will have the special opportunity to celebrate this day with my brother, who lives in the DC area and who served as a doctor in the Army for many years, including a deployment to Iraq. From my family to yours, we are so grateful for our Veterans!

Veterans Day Celebration

On Friday, November 8th , we will have an assembly to honor our Veterans. This assembly will feature performances from students from Ms. Fawcett’s and Mrs. Reed’s fifth grade classes, as well as a fifth grade Scout Color Guard.
Note: If your child has a Veteran guest and will be attending the reception rather than following their normal after school plan, please be sure to send a note to their teacher.

Progress Reports

Progress reports will go home via kidmail on Friday, November 15th.

Changes to Student Pickup

You may have noticed new painted lines at the front of the school! In an effort to keep children safe and ease the pick up line congestion, we are implementing some new “waiting areas”.   Students should line up along the newly painted black line that runs parallel to the pull up curb. They should be standing on the line with their toes facing the parking lot.  Parents are asked to wait in the painted green box to wait for their students if they are walking up. Students can meet their parent in the green box if they see them. Once a child is with their parent in the green box, they need to stay in the green box with their parent or walk to their car. Ultimately, this is to help keep our office entrances and our walkway areas clear and make it easy for us to see which kids are still waiting for their parent. We need everyone’s help to teach children this new routine. Thank you!

Trait for November/December is RESILIENCE.

Resilience is the ability to bounce back and recover from setbacks or failures and to cope with negative life events and challenges. It has been described as the capacity to “bounce back” from difficult situations and persist in the face of adversity.

East Ridge Expectation: Be Kind

Picture Day THANK YOU!

Thank you to the following people who helped with picture day:  Cari Johnson, Lori Burkman, and Jennifer Rodgers. With your help, picture day went smoothly. Thank you!

Game Room Volunteers Needed

Game room will be starting again in January and volunteers are needed to help chaperone this recess alternative. Located in the Art Room, Game Room runs on Thursdays from 11:55 - 1:40 and includes all three recesses. This is a supportive role for volunteers, Game Masters (3rd - 5th graders) have been trained in peer leadership and conflict resolution and need your positive encouragement and, at times, hands on help.

ERPTA Cultural Night

East Ridge is a school full of diversity and we want to celebrate all of it!
East Ridge will be hosting its first-ever Taste of East Ridge Cultural Night celebrating Diversity and Inclusion!
On Tuesday, November 12th, 2019 we invite East Ridge families to showcase their culture through food and poster displays.
What do we need from you? We are looking for families of all cultures to participate and showcase their unique traditions at a table where you can show and tell about your country through your poster boards, food and other items (examples: jewelry, games, maps). We also encourage everyone to wear traditional clothing and dress!
Anyone with any questions can contact Tanya O’Rourke at inclusivity@erpta.org.

About the show: This magical story by Beat by Beat Press explores the world of giants who live above the clouds and follows a group of adventurous giants who want to know more of the Earth below. While on Earth, they come across all kinds of new characters and together they learn about friendship, honesty, and what it takes to be a community. With a spectrum of fun Broadway-styled songs, a rap battle or two, and some zany characters--this will be an experience your kids won't want to miss out on.
