Hot chocolate Talk

Counseling News

Hello East Ridge Families,

The Committee For Children has recently started a series called Hot Chocolate Talk. This series helps guide parents and guardians through conversations about sexual abuse with their child in a way that is age appropriate and informative. These conversations are crucially important so that our children are equipped to refuse and report any forms of sexual abuse. If you're interested, check out the following link for more information: https://www.cfchildren.org/resources/child-abuse-prevention/

COVID Communication

Dear East Ridge Parent or Guardian,

In support of school community safety, it is our goal to provide strong communication. This includes notification of any positive COVID test of a person at our school. I am writing to inform you that a person at our school recently tested positive. If the person who tested positive is in your child's class, you received a separate email.

The individuals with COVID-19 will not be able to return to school until after their contagious period has passed. This period is 5 days after the start of symptoms and 24 hours after fever and symptoms improve without the use of medications. The individual will be required to wear a mask at school on days 6-10 (unless they receive a negative rapid antigen test).

You can find Northshore School District COVID information here.

It is recommended that all families continue to monitor their child for symptoms of COVID-19. If your child develops symptoms, please contact your healthcare provider and ask that your child receive testing for COVID-19. Testing is also available for NSD students with symptoms at Pop Keeney Stadium: click here for hour and appointment information.

We understand receiving information about positive cases can cause concern for families. We continue to implement consistent safety protocols at East Ridge in support of the well-being of our students, staff, and families. We appreciate your ongoing partnership and trust in this effort.

Kind Regards,

Sarah White
Principal/COVID Supervisor

Input for Classroom Placement for 2022-23 School Year

Each Spring, East Ridge staff begin planning for the next school year. Part of our planning includes making classroom groupings for next year. We provide families with the opportunity to provide input as part of our process. Our paramount duty during the placement process is to create well-balanced classrooms that provide the best instructional setting for all students. In determining placement, our school teams and principal consider what we know about individual students, student groups that work well together, parent input, and overall classroom balance. As a family, you may have additional insight that helps us ensure a positive and productive year for your child. If you have input you would like us to consider, please complete this form and press submit by May 13, 2022. Please complete a separate input form for each child in your family. In completing this form, please note:

  • Completion of this form is optional. All students will be given careful consideration for classroom placement, whether or not parent input is provided.

  • We do NOT accept specific teacher requests or guarantee placement in specific classroom programs. We will delete responses with specific teacher requests.

  • The information you provide will be shared with all staff involved with your child’s placement, including your child’s current teacher and next year’s teacher – this form is NOT confidential.

  • Please understand that since we may have a low number of classes at each grade level, we will not be able to create classrooms that honor all requests.

Please complete this form no later than May 13, 2022 to ensure your input is considered. Thank you for your partnership in your child’s education.

Spring SBA State Testing

Spring SBA State Testing

Spring is the time of year when our schools administer state required assessments. These assessments are used for state and federal accountability, to monitor student progress toward grade level standards, as well as an option for high school students to meet their Graduation Pathways requirement. The English/Language Arts (ELA) and math Smarter Balanced Assessments are administered in grades 3 through 8 and 10, while the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) is administered in grades 5, 8, and 11.

East Ridge SBA Testing Schedule

3rd Grade

5/17, 5/18, 5/19, 5/24 & 5/26

4th Grade

5th Grade

As we want each student to perform at their best, we encourage students to get good sleep and nutrition during these times. It is also important for families to minimize student absences during the testing schedule.
