hello kindergarten

Kindergarten Registration Is Now Open!

Kindergarten registration for fall has opened. Please register your student ASAP and encourage your friends and neighbors who have kindergarten-age children to register. The earlier families register, the earlier we can secure the number of kindergarten teachers we need!

Registration is online at: https://www.nsd.org/schools/get-started/enrollment.

To enter kindergarten, your student must be five years old on or before August 31, 2023. If you have questions, please call the office at 425.408.4400.

East Ridge will host a virtual Kindergarten Information Night in May.

Jr. Recess Coach Program

everyone is welcome hereEast Ridge is officially relaunching the Jr. Recess Coach program! After gathering a lot of feedback from students, faculty, and Playworks--the developer organization--several important changes have been made that we believe will give our Jr. Recess Coaches more visibility on the playground with the younger grades and provide more structure to the program, with the role of coaches clearly laid out. Beginning April 3, there will be a new game of week, complete with demonstration videos for teachers to show in their classes and, of course, a lot of enthusiastic students who are determined to boost and maintain success of the Jr. Recess Coach program at East Ridge!

Please also note that on Thursday mornings beginning next week, recess coaches are welcome to head to the gym after they arrive (8:50-9:05 a.m.). While there, coaches will learn the new game of the week, after which a video of the coaches demonstrating the game will be recorded for distribution to classrooms.

Computer Care Information

Prevent Laptop Damages - Please Talk With Your Student!

Please talk with your student about responsible laptop care, including keeping the laptop in its case when in areas where it's likely to get damaged or wet. Students should not be using their laptops on the bus, at the bus stop or outside.

Here is a helpful video you can share with your students on Chromebook care. Additional Chromebook care instructions can be found here.

Please contact Tiffany Dial at tdial@nsd.org with any questions. Thank you!

Picking Your Child Up After School

If you drive to pick up your child, please do not have your child walk to the streets surrounding the East Ridge campus to pick them up after school. For safety and to respect our neighbors, students leaving by car must be picked up in the designated area on campus.

Spring SBA Testing Dates

Spring is the time of year when our schools administerSBA Testing on computer screen state required assessments. These assessments are used for state and federal accountability, to monitor student progress toward grade level standards, as well as an option for high school students to meet their Graduation Pathways requirement. The English/Language Arts (ELA) and math Smarter Balanced Assessments are administered in grades 3 through 8 and 10, while the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) is administered in grades 5, 8, and 11.

Our school testing schedule is below. We want each student to perform at their best and encourage students to get good sleep and nutrition during these times. It is also important to minimize absences during your students' testing schedule.

If you have any questions about your child’s spring assessments or schedules, please feel free to contact Tiffany Dial at: tdial@nsd.org.

Welcome to Spring!

Time for the sun to shine and warmer weather to come out. Camp Cedar Springs will return to overnight this year. East Ridge and Cottage Lake will be attending together this year. May 8-10 (M-W)

  • There have been more cases of Strep Throat this year than in previous years. If your child is having a persistent sore throat and cough, it could be strep throat. Not everyone will have a fever and white patches in the back of the throat. For some it is just a sore throat and cough.
  • Colds and other non-COVID viruses seem to be causing more problems this year. This is not unexpected as more restrictions have been lifted. Good sleep, nutrition, and staying hydrated will help with staying healthy.
  • Allergies are an issue this time of year. If you have been told by your child’s medical provider that they have seasonal allergy issues, you need to update the Student Health Record so we have it on file. Also, if your child need to take any medications for allergies while at school, you will need to complete the Medication Authorization Form.
  • Remember to practice good hand washing and cover sneezes and coughs with tissue or the crook of your arm.
  • Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
  • If your child is having a hard time with allergy symptoms (congestion, coughing, sneezing, watery eyes) and is miserable, please keep them at home.
  • A kind reminder that cough drops/throat lozenges are considered a medication by OSPI and a Medication Authorization Form (completed by health provider and parent) is needed to have them at school or camp.
  • Insect repellant and sun screen are no longer considered a medication by OSPI so they do not need the medication authorization forms for those but no spray types for either is allowed. Wipes, lotions, and wrist bands (insect repellant) are acceptable.

Please let Nurse Gerry know if you have any questions.

COVID Communication

The Department of Health (DOH) requires schools to inform families and students about COVID-19 case numbers and potential outbreaks. Last week, there was one confirmed case at our school. The accuracy of our data depends on self-reporting. Thank you for continuing to let the school know if your child tests positive for COVID-19. To view additional information, including school and district trends visit the District’s COVID-19 data dashboard. The dashboard is updated weekly on Monday evenings.

If your child is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 keep them home and test for COVID-19. Families can order free COVID-19 tests from the state. Together, we can keep our schools healthy and safe.
