Spring SBA Testing Dates

Spring is the time of year when our schools administer state required assessments. These assessments are used for state and federal accountability, to monitor student progress SBA Testing toward grade level standards, as well as an option for high school students to meet their Graduation Pathways requirement. The English/Language Arts (ELA) and math Smarter Balanced Assessments are administered in grades 3 through 8 and 10, while the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) is administered in grades 5, 8, and 11.

Our school testing schedule is below. We want each student to perform at their best and encourage students to get good sleep and nutrition during these times. It is also important to minimize absences during your students' testing schedule.

If you have any questions about your child’s spring assessments or schedules, please feel free to contact Tiffany Dial at: tdial@nsd.org

East Ridge Safety Updates

I want to share some important safety upgrades that are coming to the East Ridge campus soon.  Voter approval of our Capital Bonds in Northshore has made the projects described below possible. We are so thankful for the support of our community! Mrs. White will share another update at the PTA General Meeting on 4/25.

Cameras

Capital Projects/District Security Staff and Mrs. White completed a security camera plan this fall. We are still waiting on all of the cameras to arrive (supply chain issues have caused delays). Installation of cameras throughout our campus will begin this Spring. The camera locations/views are not made public for safety and security reasons. Office staff will have a screen showing a continuous feed of camera views, and administrators will have access on computers and phone. Part of this project includes electronic locks on the front office door and a videsafety fence proposedo intercom that can remotely open the front door for visitors. (That part of the project will not be installed until late Summer or Fall).

Fencing

Limiting the access points to our campus has been a priority for our safety planning. Capital Projects/District Security Staff and Mrs. White completed a plan for security fencing upgrades this Fall. The plan had to first be approved by the Fire Marshall and then go through the required contractor bidding process. This fencing plan will make a big change to access to our campus. The black ornamental fencing (similar to pictures below, taken at Frank Love Elementary) will be installed along the front of the school and chain link fencing will be used on other parts of our campus. The fencing installation will occur later this Spring or during the Summer.

COVID Communicationsdrawing of covid germ

The Department of Health (DOH) requires schools to inform families and students about COVID-19 case numbers and potential outbreaks. Last week, there was one confirmed case at our school. The accuracy of our data depends on self-reporting. Thank you for continuing to let the school know if your child tests positive for COVID-19. To view additional information, including school and district trends visit the  District’s COVID-19 data dashboard  . The dashboard is updated weekly on Monday evenings.

If your child is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19   keep them home and test for COVID-19. Families can order free COVID-19 tests from the state  . Together, we can keep our schools healthy and safe.
