Living with Bears and Other Wildlife

Many of our families live in wooded areas with a variety of wildlife, with bears in particular causing safety concerns at times. We cannot predict the location of wildlife, such as when students are traveling to and from school. If a bear or other potentially dangerous animal is seen on or very near school grounds, we typically keep our students safely inside the building.

If you see a bear or other potentially dangerous animal, please alert the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (during business hours) at 425.775.1311 or call the police.

Fish and Wildlife offers guidelines on its Living with Wildlife page: http://wdfw.wa.gov/living/, including Do’s and Don’ts in Bear Country: http://wdfw.wa.gov/living/bears.html#encounters. While bears rarely charge humans, you might consider reviewing some of Fish and Wildlife's safety information as a family.

Are You Moving?

Are You Moving?

If your family is planning to move out of the East Ridge service area over the summer, please let the office know as soon as possible. This will help us to have a more accurate enrollment count as well as making our preliminary placement and balancing of the class/student groupings as accurate as possible. Drop off dates for returning your student’s District issued technology:

  • June 2nd: 11:00-1:00 pm and 4:00-5:30pm

  • June 16th: 11:00 - 1:00 pm

**Be sure to bring the charging cable with your device!**

Please clean your device before returning it.

Our technology department has recommended the following for basic cleaning of technology equipment including computers and mobile devices (Laptops, Desktops, Chromebooks, iPad, etc…):

  • Basic cleaning, use Windex Multi Surface VINEGAR cleaner and microfiber cloths.
Other chemical based cleaners, such as ammonia based ‘regular’ windex, can damage the coating on surfaces.

  • Spray the cleaner ON A CLOTH and use the lightly dampened cloth to clean the screen.

  • Use a dry microfiber cloth on the keyboard.

  • Do not spray the cleaner directly on to computer keyboards or screens.

  • Do NOT use any other disinfectants or sanitizers on technology equipment unless directed to do so by Technology Staff or District Administration.

5th Grade Leave Behind Project

Calling all families of 5th graders! We would love everyone's participation in the class leave behind project, the BE RESPONSIBLE pillar. We all stayed home to be responsible for the community, show East Ridge what that means to you with your drawings for the pillar. Your class pillar will be located in the courtyard by the flag pole, near the BE SAFE pillar that was created by a previous 5th grade class.

Directions and suggestions for the project are posted in your asynchronous lessons or you can join a live Zoom. Final drawings are due June 4. Hybrid students can turn drawings into their classroom teacher. Remote students can drop off their drawings at materials or library pick up. Or submit a high resolution photo or scan and email it to artdocent@erpta.org. We look forward to creating this memorable project for the Class of 2028!

Blood Drive

East Ridge families we need you!!!!

We feel so grateful that we've been able to organize a blood drive during these challenging times. Your blood donations are needed and we hope that you will head over to RedCrossBlood.org and use the code EastRidge to sign up and schedule an appointment! Juliet Epstein-O'Rourke an East Ridge 5th grader has this to say "because students can't donate, we are relying on the parents to help people in need of blood. It is another way to participate in ASB's Kindness Campaign! Sign up now to help!!!”

Free and Reduced-price Meals Expanded Benefits

While Northshore is currently providing free meals through the remainder of the 2020-21 school year, there are still important benefits families can qualify for through the free and reduced-price meal application. This application must be completed each school year. If your family income has decreased, you may be eligible for free or reduced-price school meals.

Below is a list of the additional benefits students can receive who are eligible for free and reduced-price meals. This list of fee waivers and fee reductions was expanded this year, thanks to House Bill 1660.

  • Fee waiver for sports/athletics

  • Fee waiver for ASB card

  • Fee waiver for optional non-credit activities such as some clubs, dances, sporting events, etc.

  • Reduced fee for preschool, pre-K and summer school tuition programs

  • Reduced fee for Camp Cedar Springs

  • Reduced fee for PSAT and Advanced Placement Testing

  • Reduced fee for class fees and field trips

  • Reduced fee for high school graduation costs

  • Reduced fee for yearbooks for students in grades 8-12

  • Access to Operation School Bell, which provides clothes and personal products

  • Access to Backpack Program, which provides backpacks and school supplies

To have these fees waived, families must grant permission for their student’s eligibility status to be shared with Northshore School District staff or third-party vendors who are directly associated with the administration or point of sale system of the selected fee waiver programs. To grant this access, there is a new form that requires all families who qualify for free and reduced-price meals, no matter if they qualified through the state or the District’s form, that must be completed in order to securely share qualification information with select staff to ensure fees are waived.

If your family has already completed the free and reduced-price meal application this school year, you will still need to complete the new form to access all of the benefits listed above.
