In order to avoid repetitive information for families with multiple children at East Ridge, we have prepared a few videos for families to watch separately, rather than including them at each Curriculum Night.

Air Quality
At school, we continue to monitor air quality to make determinations about outdoor recess and/or PE. In the Northshore School District, we use AirNow.gov to verify the quality of air in our area. Based on the quality of the air, we adjust activities using the Washington Air Quality Guide for School & Child Care Activities*. *Please note, we use the health conditions of students based on information on file with our school nurse. Per these guidelines, health conditions include asthma and other lung disease, respiratory infection, heart disease, and diabetes.
We will continue to make determinations about students being outdoors based on the resources shared above.
A Note from Mrs. White - Attendance
Dear East Ridge Families,
Last school year, we excused absences for family trips, knowing that many had to postpone trips during the pandemic and that it was important to find time to visit family after a long time apart. This year, we hope families will return to pre-pandemic practices of limiting non-illness related absences as much as possible. Please schedule family trips during regular school breaks (see 22-23 calendar here).
It is very difficult to make up missed instructional time, since much of your child’s learning at school is dependent upon student and teacher collaboration, personalized feedback, small group work, hands-on learning, inquiry experiences, and other classroom interactions. These rich classroom experiences can’t be replaced by make-up work or online programs. Teachers are not able to provide assignments in advance of student absences.
Consistent attendance is very important to your child’s learning and relationships at school. Missing just two days a month, whether excused or unexcused, makes it more likely your child will not meet academic standards. Frequent absences can also make it harder for children to establish and maintain friendships with peers.
We love seeing your child here at school every day! Thank you for your partnership!
Get to Know New Staff to East Ridge...
Kelsey Barrett
I am a Kindergarten and First Grade Music Teacher here at East Ridge. We learn about music by exploring sounds, singing, playing instruments and making music together!
During fall of 2021 I student taught at East Ridge in first grade with Mrs. Gangwish. I spent the rest of the school year working at another elementary school in Northshore SD. East Ridge has such a dedicated community of staff members and families. Everyone at East Ridge works together to support each student in their social, emotional and academic growth. I am thrilled to be back at East Ridge this school year. Go Suns!
Katie Couture
I am the school counselor here at East Ridge. Sometimes I refer to school counselors as "feelings teachers" when talking to kiddos about my job. I am extremely excited to get to know the students and families that make up our community!
East Ridge Elementary is a wonderful place for students to learn about themselves and the world around them. I appreciate so much the values this school strives to instill into all of our kids: safety, respect, kindness, and responsibility.
Sara Howard
I am a school assistant helping with recess supervision, small group work and helping anywhere else I'm needed around the school.
My two children attend East Ridge and I just love being a part of such a wonderful community. As a classroom teacher, I have taught nearly every grade from preschool through 6th. I have also been volunteering and involved in the PTA here the last few years, so this was an amazing opportunity to get to tie it all together. I am so excited to be joining such a fabulous team and getting to know all your students this year!
Kiwi Lawson
I am the Learning Center Teacher.
I am excited to join such a kind and caring community. I look forward to sharing my love for learning with all students at East Ridge.
Rachel Madding
I am a Mental Health Counselor. I will be at East Ridge on Thursdays. During that time I will be working with a small caseload of students identified through internal referrals. If you are concerned about your student, the first step is to contact their teacher and Ms. Couture, the school counselor.
I am really excited to be a member of the East Ridge community!
JoAnn Todd
I work as a literacy specialist serving Multilingual students and K-4 students who are learning to be proficient readers.
I am thrilled to work part-time at East Ridge while I teach several courses at the UWB School of Education mentoring and teaching future teachers. This is my 14th school year in NSD and 22nd in education. Woodinville is my home and I am fortunate to know several East Ridge families through my two children's sports teams.

COVID Communication
The Department of Health (DOH) requires schools to inform families and students about COVID-19 case numbers and potential outbreaks. Last week, there were a total of four confirmed cases at our school. The accuracy of our data depends on self-reporting. Thank you for continuing to let the school know if your child tests positive for COVID-19. To view additional information, including school and district trends visit the District’s COVID-19 data dashboard. The dashboard is updated weekly on Monday evenings.
If your child is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 keep them home and test for COVID-19. Families can order free COVID-19 tests from the state. Together, we can keep our schools healthy and safe.

East Ridge Library would love your help! Volunteers help keep the library running smoothly by helping with things like check in/out and shelving. It's a great way to get involved at school, even if you've never volunteered before. It's also very flexible if you aren't able to make it in on a weekly basis. We still have several classes without volunteers, so please fill out this form if you have any interest in helping out in the library this year!
