Message from Mrs. White

We are off to a great start at East Ridge! It is an absolute joy to have our students back with us in person! Here are some highlights from last week:

  • Children are eagerly greeting each other and staff throughout the day! Even with masks, we can sense their smiles!

  • Teachers and students in classrooms are engaged in activities for relationship building, getting to know one another, and learning how to share ideas and learn from one another.

  • Teachers are explicitly teaching our school expectations and routines - in class and everywhere! Staff are recognizing many students each day with Sunshine Slips.

  • Teachers are providing a safe lunch time, either outdoors or indoors with maximized physical distancing.

  • Children are so thrilled to have the freedom to choose where they play at recess (no more zones)! They are so happy to be able to interact with peers from other classrooms! Our students are being safe by wearing masks when playing in proximity to one another throughout the playground and blacktop areas, and also can check with recess teachers for mask-free options when they need a break.

  • Children, families and staff are getting better every day at our arrival, dismissal, and parking lot procedures. Please see below for a slide deck link with instructions and some other important reminders.

I am so proud of our staff for the thoughtfulness and care they have put into planning a successful transition back to full-time in person learning. Thank you for sending us such cheerful children who are ready to learn!

Warmly,

Sarah White, Principal

Here are some important related reminders

  • Please be respectful of our neighbors who live on the streets leading to East Ridge. Please leave their driveways clear at all times, and do not block their trash/recycling cans on Wednesdays.

  • In the morning if your child arrives by car, please help them be ready to independently exit the car as soon as you have pulled forward and stopped

    • Say your goodbyes before it is time to get out

    • Mask on

    • Backpack on

    • Car door unlocked (Please check owner’s manual for how to open your doors without getting out of your car)

  • Please teach your child how to buckle in and out of their car seat or booster seat for times they are entering and exiting the car at school.

Save the Date!

Please save the date for Monday, October 11th at 6:30pm for a Parent Math Night. This event will be held via ZOOM. Our generous PTAs across the East Region in Northshore have paid for Shannon Kiebler, a math teaching and learning expert, to help our school community learn more about how to help our students be successful mathematicians. Shannon is also working with our teachers throughout the year to help us learn and grow as educators!

Cross Country

Our Cross Country program goals and objectives include: - Promotefoot with wings on it strong effort, a positive attitude, teamwork, and school spirit. - Introduce the student athletes to friendly competition.

  • Cross Country is available to all student athletes in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grades.

  • Cross Country starts September 21st.

  • The course distance is roughly one-half mile.

  • Student athletes need to wear clothing and footwear that is suitable for running outdoors, even in those cool, damp fall afternoons.

  • Student athletes must provide their own transportation to the away meets and home after practice. There are no school buses to take you to the meets. Car-pooling is a great option.

  • Pick up your child promptly at the end of practices or meets. Student athletes will be picked up in the parent pick up zone in front of the school after practice.

  • If it is raining hard on the day of meets, it may be canceled. All events are canceled if there is lightning.

  • Covid precautions: All district sports programs will comply with Washington State Department of Health “Sports and Fitness Guidance during COVID-19”, which is available at this URL: https://www.doh.wa.gov/Portals/1/Documents/1600/coronavirus/820-201-SportsFitnessGuidance.pdf

PRACTICES / MEETS

Practices are short and sweet and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursday’s at East Ridge, beginning 9/21 at 3:50 pm and ending at 4:35 pm (rain or shine). We will start our practices in the gym before we head outside to work on our conditioning, stamina, and technique for running long distances. For meets, student athletes should also arrive 20 minutes prior to the meet start time in order to check in with the coaches, stretch, and to walk through the course before the start of the race.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Please consider volunteering for the home meet to enhance your student athlete experience. We need to post volunteers at a number of locations on the race course to ensure that our student athletes stay on course and remain safe. Please sign up to help at the home meet at the below link. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F44ABA822A6FE3-east1
